The Annual Luddenden Village Christmas Wreath Competition
Thank you to everyone who took part in the village wreath competition. All the wreaths were amazing and creative.
This years winner is Kaya. The judge, last years winner Rebecca, particularly liked her use of foraged materials and the use of silver birch bark.
Kaya is pictured receiving the hamper from Tony Hillyard the chairperson of the Luddenden Conservation Society.
From the Mayor: We had a really good turnout for yesterday’s Luddenden Mayor’s Christmas Fayre in spite of the dreadful weather. Father Christmas was in attendance with his spritely elves and a wide array of stalls selling gifts and delicious food added colour and interest to the event. More than £600 was raised for local causes, a magnificent total. Thank you to Midgley School choir who sang beautifully, St Mary's in Luddenden for lending us the wonderful venue, Lord Nelson Inn Luddenden Village for kindly donating the mulled wine, all the stallholders for donating raffle prizes, the team of organisers and helpers and all of you who braved the weather and spent so generously. Finally, a big thank you to the main man, Father Christmas, for gracing us with his presence.

"Such a fun afternoon yesterday at the Luddenden Mayor’s Senior Social and Singalong. We were royally entertained by Al G, enjoyed delicious pie and peas, kindly provided by The Secret Cafe and finished with a round of Bingo. This was a free event for local seniors but a raffle raised £166 for the Mayor’s chosen special charity this year, Alzheimer’s Research. Thank you to Booth Cricket Club for providing the venue."
A wonderful time was reported! Thanks to Jackie Smith for organising the event.
A wonderful day in the village! Nigel Hodgson is duly elected the new village mayor!
Many stalls, lots of games and a lot of cake! Weather was a bit variable, but was sunny during the important times. Duck race was a little wetter, not helped by your editor falling into the brook during the commentary.
Great start of Nigel's term, and we raised significant funds for Nigel's chosen charity - Alzheimer’s Research UK.
